Kiki is a 13-year-old witch-in-training, living in a village where her mother is the resident herbalist. It’s traditional for witches to live for a year alone when they reach 13. In the opening of the story, Kiki takes off for the big city with her best friend, Jiji, a loquacious black cat.
Kiki settles in Koriko, a beautiful city by the sea. After a hard start, mostly because of her own insecurity, Kiki finds friends and a place to stay. But she has only one witch’s skill: her ability to fly on a broom, at which she is still not fully proficient. So, in order to support herself, she begins a delivery service.
Kiki experiences setbacks, and she must contend with adolescent worries. She is pursued by Tombo, a local boy who’s crazy about aviation and has developed a genuine respect for her flying power and a strong liking for Kiki as a girl in general. Kiki eventually warms up to him, but after an unpleasant encounter with Tombo’s friends, some of whom she had met earlier under unfavorable circumstances, Kiki’s powers to fly and speak with Jiji suddenly diminish and ultimately disappear, leaving Kiki devastated. However, one of her friends, a young painter named Ursula, invites her to stay in her forest cottage, where she analyzes Kiki’s current crisis as some form of “artist’s block.” Since many things had not gone as hoped for, Kiki is experiencing a period of insecurity and loneliness, which resulted in the loss of her powers; but if she finds a new purpose, she will be able to reclaim what she has lost.
Heartened, Kiki returns to the city. While visiting one of her customers, she witnesses an accident in which Tombo is lifted into the air and blown away hanging from a dirigible. In her desperation to save him, Kiki pushes herself to regain her flying ability. Improvising with a street-sweeper’s push broom, Kiki manages to reactivate her power and rescue Tombo.
The story continues through the end titles where we see that Kiki is now comfortably part of the life in Koriko as its own local celebrity. She flies in formation with Tombo on his human-powered aircraft. The film closes with Kiki sending a letter to her parents about gaining confidence through difficulties and that she has decided to make this city her new home.

Hibiki Amawa is an enthusiastic young man whose dream career is to be a professional teacher, having graduated from college with a certificate in athletics. When he is unable to pay his landlady, Lulu Sanjo, the monthly rent for his apartment, he rushes off to the nearby (fictional) Seito Sannomiya Private School to apply for a position that is open, but is summarily denied employment because of his gender. Offended, and more determined than ever to have his way, Hibiki vows to demonstrate the merits of his educational philosophy to his detractors, and with offered help from Lulu, agrees to disguise himself by cross-dressing in order to deceive the school’s misandrist administration. With assistance from some gadgets Lulu engineered for this purpose, he disguises himself very convincingly. Following an initial demonstration of his merits as an educator, he is hired.
Unfortunately for Hibiki, however, life as a gym teacher at this school does not go completely smoothly. With interpersonal conflicts among students causing fights and occasional mild missteps endangering his disguise, Hibiki must not only mediate his class, but also keep up appearances and come to terms with what his disguise might imply about his sexuality.

A wholly delightful comedy of human nature, The Wedding Banquet taps into a rich stream of emotion via Ang Lee’s light, perceptive touch. In Manhattan, Wai-tung (Winston Chao) is quite tangibly a success story. Through hard work, talent and application he’s amassed a spread of property; it’s fortunate that his tenants are not all like Wei-wei (May Chin) though. An illegal Chinese immigrant, she scrapes a living through waitressing and painting. Unfortunately Wai-tung doesn’t meet his parent’s expectations in one very important way; Simon (Mitchell Lichtenstein) is the love of his life. In short, Wai-tung is gay.

The never confronted problem is that Wai-tung’s parents, Mr (Sihung Lung) and Mrs. Gao (Ah Lei Gua), have not the slightest inkling of his orientation. As a result romantic suggestions, dating agency forms and broad hints deluge him. In desperation Simon proposes an apparently ideal solution, one that covers a multitude of needs; Wai-tung should marry Wei-wei. That way he placates his parents, obtains a decent tax-break and helps Wei-wei acquire a Green Card. Even better, with the pressure off, his relationship with Simon is bound to improve. There’s just a single flaw, in that Wai-tung’s parents decide upon an American visit; after all, it is the wedding of their only son that we’re talking about…

For the past ten years, Baltimore industrialist Wendell Armbruster has been spending the month of August at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Ischia, allegedly to soak in the therapeutic mud baths for which the resort island is known. When he is killed in an automobile accident, his straitlaced son Wendell, Jr. journeys to Italy to claim his father’s body. Upon arrival he discovers his father was not alone in the Fiat he was driving; with him was his British mistress, whose daughter, free-spirited London shop girl Pamela Piggott, also is on the scene, though she clearly knew of their parents’ clandestine romance beforehand.

Complications arise when the Trotta family, whose vineyard was damaged when the elder Armbruster’s car drove into it, steal the bodies from the morgue and hold them for a two million lire ransom. Trying to assist is United States Ambassador J.J. Blodgett, who hopes to appoint the deceased man to an embassy post posthumously so the government can get involved in the recovery of his body. As their problems with local customs and bureaucratic red tape escalate, Wendell and Pamela find themselves falling in love with the assistance of manager Carlo Carlucci, valet Bruno, and the rest of the hotel staff, who are determined the couple will follow in the romantic path of their parents.

But I’m a Cheerleader is a 1999 satirical romantic comedy film directed by Jamie Babbit and written by Brian Wayne Peterson. Natasha Lyonne stars as Megan Bloomfield, an apparently happy heterosexual high school cheerleader. However, her friends and family are convinced that she is a homosexual and arrange an intervention, sending her to a residential inpatient reparative therapy camp to cure her lesbianism. There Megan soon realizes that she is indeed a lesbian and, despite the therapy, gradually comes to embrace her sexual orientation. The supporting cast includes Eddie Cibrian, Clea DuVall, Cathy Moriarty, RuPaul, Richard Moll, Mink Stole, Kip Pardue, and Bud Cort.
